About Tara Basi
Tara Basi is known for her surreal and strange novels, such as Seven at Two Past Five, her science fiction works, including The Orb, Regression, and the Blocks trilogy, as well as her short-story collections, which include Frank and The Mission. She is also known for her humour, highlighted in the novels Masterminders and Unipolar.
Less well-known is that she is also the proprietor of Cheesecloth, located in the tiny village of North Luffenham. Established in 1065, it is the world's oldest artisan cheese and haberdashery corner shop. While Tara, now 106, has never left North Luffenham, she has learned much from observing her customers and their day-to-day struggles – from coping with the rising cost of taffeta to the difficulties of removing taleggio from cat whiskers.
Distilling her fifty years of experience in bringing peace, stability, and prosperity to North Luffenham in the beautiful county of Rutland into her latest work, Bill and Ben – Global Problem-Solving Men, to be released in 2026.
This will be essential reading for anyone who is worried about the state of the world and is looking for sensible solutions from a sensible author with extensive experience in cheese, haberdashery, and complex village politics. She can be relied upon not to resort to vulgarity or wantonly propose peremptory nuclear strikes in her search for answers. If only the same could be said for Bill and Ben.
Tara is also working on a new crime novel, Bland, and a fresh collection of short stories, You. By popular demand, she has recently published several of her photo books, including See Side, #NoBearWalls, Rainroom, and Lightroom.
As with everything Tara sells in Cheesecloth, her photographs, writing and book covers are proudly handmade and bespoke.
